The Verdun Citizens Action Committee (CACV) is a non-profit organization that has been working in the Verdun community since 1975. The organization supports people so that they can improve their living conditions in a sustainable way. The CACV promotes their aspirations, particularly in housing and urban development. I facilitated art workshops with the members of the Artists and Activists Collective of the CACV. Together, we created different collective artistic projects (music, theater, visual arts) to highlight the problems that tenants meet when faced with gentrification. We used art to combat gentrification, to debunk prejudices about poverty and to claim the right to exist and live in the neighborhood with dignity! I really enjoyed collaborating with other artists on this long-term project (Alexis Aubin, Dan Parker and Nadège Leblanc) who also shared their tools and art mediums with the group.
